As a Social Worker, Suzanne Porter has been working for
California’s Child Protective Services (CPS) since 2014. However, she has been
working with children and families for more than two decades. She has degrees
in psychology and counseling, and has worked with organizations that help
children and families in Boston as well as California.
“I
investigate child abuse and made assessments as to the safety of children” says
Suzy Porter, “I work with parents to stabilize the family and provide families
with services such as therapy, parenting classes and anger management.”
One reason to start a career in social services is to help
families. Social Workers do not just investigate claims of child abuse but they
help families as well. Professionals who work in social services may help
families gain access to parenting classes as well as therapists.
Another reason to become a Social Worker is to save children.
Professionals with CPS may have the opportunity to remove children from abusive
situations. Social Workers may have the opportunity to reunite families as
well.
A third reason is to learn more about human psychology. Many Social
Workers have backgrounds in psychology or counseling. Some professionals in the
industry conduct therapy sessions and work with adolescents. A compassionate SocialWorker, Suzanne Porter has spent years helping adolescents and families in
Boston as well as California. She is an experienced professional with the
California CPS.
